All through his life, Folon carried lots of notebooks with him. They were of several types and were used as diaries, for making notes or for all kinds of sketches. A single book was often used for all these purposes. The Fondation Folon has hundreds of them. They tell us about the artist’s daily life and often provide information about how he created his works.
From the 1980s, Folon added another, entirely artistic dimension. A keen traveller, he always packed a good quality travel diary in his luggage. These diaries are full of fascinating creations, where the artist, working mostly in coloured pencil, loses himself in descriptions of landscapes, people, objects and artworks.
