Microarchitecture

As part of the exhibition “Kengo Kuma. Architecture in Dialogue,” the Faculty of Architecture La Cambre-Horta (ULB), in partnership with Kengo Kuma & Associates and the Fondation Folon, organized a workshop dedicated to the creation of micro-architectures, inspired both by the work of Kengo Kuma and the world of Folon. From this collaboration emerged two ephemeral pavilions : The Fog, a vertical spiral structure, and The Wave, a horizontal structure.

This workshop represented an exceptional educational and cultural opportunity, placing students at the heart of a complete process—from design to construction—in direct connection with a museum institution and an internationally renowned architecture firm.

These installations were designed and built by 17 students: Alexandra Van Leeuw, Alexia Rusu, Aubin Raynaud, Aurélien Michiels, Célian Guérin, Charlie Lechien, Clara Pandin, Cliffany Del Rosario, Emma Zanoni, Emmanuelle Ebengo-Mpangi, Isis Soares Sad, Kana Takegami, Léa-Marie Moreau Gitton, Maëlys Lacour, Mateo Rodriguez Forero, Matys Clerc, Nano Yoshida.

Under the supervision of professors: Satoko Shinohara, Marcelle Rabinowicz, Taichi Kuma, Salvator-John Liotta.

The workshop is endorsed and supported by ULB as part of a series of events organised to mark the 160th anniversary of Belgian-Japanese friendship, of which it forms an integral part. This micro-architecture is on display at the Fondation for the duration of the exhibition.
