Folon. Agency of imaginary journeys

This affinity can probably be explained by several factors. Folon’s approach seems to be in tune with the principles of Japanese aesthetics: the quest for simplicity through an economy of means, subtlety, melancholy, the supremacy of nature and the representation of the landscape.

This exhibition is based on a series of questions posed in the works to raise public awareness of various pressing issues. The journey begins with an encounter with his iconic character, the city, arrows and the maze. “This Way, That Way, or Some Other Way?” The next chapter, “What Do You Hear?”, focuses our reflection on nature, ecology and the future of our planet. Then, “What Should We Talk About?” shows the artist at work in the world of communication and media and demonstrates the power of images. Taking Mies Van de Rohe’s maxim Less is more as his guide, Folon continually refined his artistic language and intensified the emotion of the colours.

The journey ends with the key questions: “Where Do We Go from Here?”. “What choices are we going to make of our own free will?” The epilogue invites travellers to reflect on the world they want to live in.

The Fondation Folon was very receptive to this approach that defies convention, presents Folon in the here and now, recalls the campaigns he led throughout his career and reaches out to young people in a spirit of hope.
