Folon Photos Graphiques

Photography played an integral role in the development of Folon’s visual thinking. Sometimes a starting point and sometimes a source of inspiration, it was intrinsic to the painter’s work. A photographer’s eye holds the idea in the same way as a sketch on paper.

Other, more personal photos captured moments of closeness with his associates at particular times of his career: Pierre Alechinsky, César, Federico Fellini, Milton Glaser, David Hockney, Yves Montand, Saul Steinberg…

250 snapshots displayed or projected in the gallery provided an unique insight into Folon’s method and the consistency of his work. The exhibition also featured portraits of the artist, at work and in his private life, captured for posterity by his photographer friends: Henri Cartier-Bresson, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Jeanloup Sieff, Giorgio Soavi, André Villers, Thierry Renauld, Colette Portal…
