State Visit: meeting with the Imperial Family of Japan
Friday 26 June
On the occasion of the State Visit of Their Majesties Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan to Belgium, Stéphanie Angelroth, Director of the Fondation Folon in La Hulpe, had the honour of being received in audience at the Residence of the Ambassador of Japan to Belgium.
This meeting reflects the longstanding and privileged relationship between the Fondation Folon and Japan, built upon the many projects that artist Jean-Michel Folon developed throughout his lifetime.
The State Visit takes place within the framework of the celebrations marking 160 years of diplomatic relations between Belgium and Japan. In this context, the Fondation Folon is highlighting Japanese creativity through two major exhibitions in 2026: the exhibition dedicated to architect Kengo Kuma, currently on view at the museum, and an exhibition devoted to renowned manga artist Jirō Taniguchi, opening next October.
We also fondly remember Their Majesties’ visit to the major retrospective exhibition dedicated to Jean-Michel Folon at the Tokyo Station Gallery in September 2024.
Our warmest thanks go to His Excellency Takeshi Osuga, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Belgium, and to His Excellency Antoine Evrard, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Japan, for their trust and invaluable support.
